Like many consumers facing rising energy costs, she is now experiencing the stress of a potential service disconnection. While she works to stabilize her situation, the charges continue to increase. As a recent graudte of CARITAS' Works class, Joyner finds themself unable to obtain employment without a cell phone in this technology driven age. Without a current source of income or ability to obtain government assistance, Joyner has no means of communication with prospective employers or housing connections. This reality leads them to feel isolated during a period of homelessness that is already traumatizing enough.

Miranda, like many of us, is battling with financial instability brought upon by many uncontrollable factors. While currently three months pregnant and maintaining employment, Miranda finds herself unable to cover electricity expenses accrued during her last residence. Now experiencing homelessness, her limited income is deovted to covering current needs for herself and her baby. As she is matched with ongoing housing subsidy, coverage of her electricity costs would allow Miranda to move into stable housing and provide for her child.

Falona is currently a participant at the CARITAS Women's Emergency Shelter attempting to regain financial and housing stability. Upon relocating to Richmond, she began experiencing homelessness as savings and income became depleted. Focused on rebuilding her life, Falona engages with CARITAS' Works program and Job Club to identify and apply for sustaining employment. To better that goal, Falona needs support to obtain a Forklift License.

In our Human Trafficking Shelter, two residents, Miranda and Elena, have the opportunity to participate in a six-week therapeutic art group designed to help individuals process grief through hands-on creative work. For many survivors, grief can be difficult to express with words alone. This group offers a safe space to work through those emotions in a supportive, healing environment. Your support will allow both residents to participate in this meaningful experience.

Kristen is a survivor of domestic violence and came into our emergency shelter earlier this month. The very first day she was here, she already had job interviews scheduled. Kristen has hit the ground running and is now in training at her new job. She takes the bus and rides her bike home at night which takes her over an hour. She is not one to be deterred and is doing everything she can to help herself get back on her feet. Her phone has been disconnected, and she has not gotten her first paycheck. Your support of $150 will help Kristen get her phone reconnected.

Janine reached out to Safe Harbor in early February for assistance with housing and regaining custody of her 2 children. The judge initially granted custody to Janine's ex/abuser and claimed she did not have enough room for her kids because she was living in her mother's basement . While the custody agreement has since been resolved, Janine is still worried about having safe and affordable housing for her family. He is legally blind and has hearing impairments and is currently adjusting to life in a rooming house, where navigating the bathroom at night can be especially challenging. To support Charles during his transition, we are seeking help with essential supplies, including incontinence items such as bed pads, a mattress cover, and extra sheets. A small chair with arms for his room would also improve his stability while he relaxes and enjoys television.
